About Neighbourhood Pet Clinic

We acknowledge that our clients share our community, and consider them to be our “neighbours”. The animals that share our neighbours’ lives are more than just pets, they are truly “furry family members”. Our two companion animal clinics in London, Ontario are centred around the concepts of comfort and convenience and our efforts are guided by these principles.

The Neighbourhood Pet Clinic team is comprised of a variety of roles, all tied together by our duty as animal health advocates. We believe in treating every furry family member as an individual, with the same respect, kindness, and caring that we extend to each other.

Associate Veterinarian

A message from Dr. Alec Martin, Medical Director:

If you are reading this, then you must be a little curious about a position at Neighbourhood Pet Clinic. We’re grateful that you are. Lately it has become quite difficult to get noticed in all the OVMA, CVMA and AVMA classifieds, the number of which continue to break new records.

Well, this is our website and we don’t have to pay by the word, so let us share with you the whole story.

We started Neighbourhood Pet Clinic in 2008 with the singular objective of creating a pet healthcare facility that pets actually want to visit. Preposterous? Maybe. Easy? Definitely not. Worth trying? Absolutely. It goes without saying that while this is a goal that always seems just out of reach, it is one for which we must continually strive.
We accomplish this by providing a connected, positive and engaging experience that starts “on-stage” and continues “back-stage”. Growing our base of active happy pets and pet parents using this approach is job one.

We assume that you became a veterinarian because you loved animals. The days are pretty long if you don’t at least have that going for you. But what about the people? If you pursued this career because you hate people, then let’s not waste each other’s time. We believe that people – the ones we work with and the ones we work for – are the real source of inspiration in veterinary medicine. Do you believe you should love your neighbour? We do. In fact we call our clients “neighbours” just to make a point. Of course some people are spectacularly unloveable. But that just makes our job all the more challenging. If you wanted the easy path in life, why in the world did you become a veterinarian?

So why work for Neighbourhood Pet Clinic? Because of our culture. Organizational culture is a tough thing to consciously create. More often it happens by default. It happens because of the way we treat each other, the way we treat our personal animals, the way we treat our patients, the way we treat our neighbours, the way we treat our community and the way we treat our world. We didn’t create our culture. Our culture created itself. If you join our team, you end up subscribing to our culture. When that happens, the magic begins.

What can you expect?
You will be a key part of the operations at our well-staffed and well-equipped companion animal hospital(s) in London, Ontario.

You will be a part of a team that highly values the comfort and convenience of our neighbours and their furry family members. As an associate veterinarian, you will be a core part of this veterinary experience.

This position would include 38-44 hours per week on a consistent schedule. This position will require evenings and some Saturdays on a regular rotation.

What are we looking for?
As the ideal candidate, you understand that the experience of a veterinary visit goes beyond the medical care that is provided. You enjoy working with people (almost as much as you love working with animals) and believe in the importance of strong client communication. You take pride in the services, industry, and business you represent and believe in the importance of giving back to your community. You are committed to the practice of high-quality medicine, ongoing professional development, continuing education, and working as part of a multidisciplinary patient care team.

When working in a group, you are a natural communicator and a team player; you are eager to learn from others and to help others learn. You will add value to our team by being open to new ideas and always looking for ways to improve the services we provide, both in terms of medicine and the visitor experience.

You hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from an accredited University, with a current valid license in good standing with the College of Veterinarians of Ontario.

Any specialization or formal training from either inside or outside the industry will be highly regarded, including special skills such as a second language. New grads welcome.

What are we looking for?
