Dogs don’t cool themselves like we do.

It’s up to all of us to keep them safe from weather-related harm.

Cars can reach dangerous temperatures in a short
amount of time due to the Greenhouse Effect.

1. Visible light waves enter the vehicle through a transparent surface (like a car window).

2. The light is absorbed and converted into heat inside the vehicle.

This is the same process that occurs in actual greenhouses. This allows for recreation of hot climates indoors using only sunlight, even when the weather is mild outside.

Did you know…

Even with the windows open in a vehicle, light will continue to absorb faster than heat can escape? This means that even with the windows cracked, there is no safe temperature to leave your dog in a parked car.

Symptoms of Heatstroke in Dogs

Unlike us, dogs only sweat on the bottom of their paws, so they mostly cool themselves through panting. This means that they are prone to overheating, even in temperatures that feel comfortable for humans. Know the signs of heatstroke and seek veterinary assistance immediately if you notice any of the following symptoms:
